Esther Marinho Santana holds a PhD in Literary Criticism and Theory from the University of Campinas, and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of São Paulo and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). She has been a visiting researcher at the City University of New York, and the University Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3. She is the International Secretary for Latin America of the Edward Albee Society and the editor of the book Albee Abroad (Brill, 2023). As an academic, her work focuses on the intersections of literature and performing arts, with numerous publications in Brazilian journals on dramaturgy; theory, criticism, history and historiography of theatre in Brazil and the United States; as well as the global circulation of theatre. She collaborates with the Center of Theatre Documentation at the University of São Paulo, and her most recent research investigates the reception of the first Peking Opera presentations in Brazil, in 1956, highlighting the significance of primary sources and archival documents as crucial tools for reassessing performing arts criticism.
